Q: Does anyone have a method to quickly dewax shellac? I mix my own shellac from flakes and find it takes forever to settle out the wax with gravity.
Andy Rae: The quickest way I know is to buy dewaxed shellac flakes or, even faster, buy dewaxed shellac, sold in the form of Zinsser® SealCoat.
Michael Dresdner: Try a coffee filter. It is slow, but not as slow as waiting and decanting. For future purchases, I agree with Andy – buy SealCoat, which is not only easier, it is cheaper and has a far longer shelf life than any other shellac in liquid form.
