Just Follow the Band Saw Kerf
|
I do a lot of spindle turning on the lathe and prepare the stock by cutting both ends square. I used to mark each cut with pencil, then square it across two adjacent faces. I soon realized that since the band saw table is 90° to the blade, all I need to do is make a shallow cut in one face, then rotate the blank a quarter turn towards me as shown. The resulting saw kerf both defines the cut and acts as a guide for the blade. - Jim Vasi, Williamsville, New York
